Note:
-The Branch needs parent drivers, and parents to sort bottles and cans
-parents please make sure that you pick up your Cadets no later than 12:45 pm.

-Please note if it is more than -10 C without a wind-chill the bottle drive will have to be postponed for another day in the future.

-Each Cadet must have winter clothing on for this activity, i.e. Boots, gloves, winter jacket and toque

Summer Training Descriptions

General Training

Leadership – Participate as a member of a team
The aim of GT Leadership is for the individual cadet to participate in activities as a member of a team

Fitness and Sports – Participate in Fitness and Sports Activities
The aim of GT Fitness and Sports is to encourage cadets to actively participate in recreational sports activities and introduce them to the CSTC training opportunities available in this specialty area

Air Rifle Marksmanship – Participate in Aspects of Marksmanship Specialty Training
The aim of GT air rifle marksmanship is to build on marksmanship skills learned as part of Phase One and enhance those skills during participation in a recreational air rifle shoot. Additionally, the aim of this PO is to introduce cadets to summer biathlon and the future opportunities available in the areas of marksmanship and biathlon

General Cadet Knowledge – Adapt to the CSTC Environment
The aim of GT General cadet knowledge is to familiarize cadets with the structure and environment of a CSTC and to provide cadets with sufficient knowledge and experience to allow them to select the course they will pursue during their second summer at CSTC

Drill – Participate in Aspects of Drill and Ceremonial Specialty Training
The aim of GT Drill is to further develop drill skills acquired during Phase One and to introduce cadets to the opportunities available in the drill and ceremonial specialty area

Music – Participate in Aspects of Music Specialty Training
The aim of GT Music is to introduce cadets to the opportunities available in the music specialty area

Sail – Participate in Aspects of Sail Specialty Training
The aim of GT Sail is to introduce cadets to the opportunities available in the Sail speciality area

Seamanship – Participate in aspects of Seamanship Specialty training
The aim of GT Seamanship is to introduce cadets to the opportunities available in the seamanship specialty area

Basic Fitness and Sports

The following are the POs that form the content of the Basic Fitness and Sports Qualification:

PO S230 – Perform the Duties of a Fitness and Sports Assistant
The aim of PO S230 is to have the cadets perform the duties required of a sports assistant

PO S231 – Follow a Personal Fitness Routine
The aim of PO S231 is to have the cadets create a personal activity plan and to follow a personal fitness routine

PO S232 – Lead a Warm up and Cool Down Session
The aim of PO S232 is to develop leadership skills in the cadets by having them lead a warm-up and cool down session

PO S233 – Assist with the Cadet Fitness Assessment
The aim of PO S233 is for cadets to assist with the Cadet Fitness Assessment

PO S234 – Assist with Recreational Sports
The aim of PO S234 is for cadets to assist with recreational sports

Basic Seamanship

The following are the POs that form the content of the Basic Seamanship qualification:

PO S221 – Perform Ropework
The aim of PO S221 is to review and practice the ropework skills learned in Phase Two, and introduce new ropework skills that can be applied in many areas of the Sea Cadet Program

The aim of PO S222 is to develop in cadets the knowledge and skills to enable them to act as member of a whaler crew

PO S223 – Participate in a Day Sail on a Sea Cadet Training Vessel (SCTV)
The aim of PO S223 is to provide cadets with a SCTV experience that will create interest in this area of the Sea Cadet Program

PO S230 – Communicate in a Naval Environment
The aim of PO S230 is to develop in cadets the naval communication skills and knowledge that can be applied in many areas of the Sea Cadet Program

PO S260 – Perform the Role of a Peer Leader
The aim of PO S260 is to provide cadets with knowledge and skills to practice peer leadership during naturally occurring leadership opportunities

PO S261 – Lead Team Building Activities
The aim of PO S261 is to have the cadets lead various team building activities involving their peers

PO S262 – Communicate Effectively Within a Leadership Team
The aim of PO S262 is to review and practice the communication skills learned in Phase Two, and to introduce additional communication skills to support leadership training

PO S263 – Command A Squad
The aim of PO S263 is to provide cadets with the knowledge and skills to deliver words of command to a squad of their peers while supervising and correcting drill

PO S264 – Execute Rifle Drill as a Member of a Squad
The aim of PO S264 is to provide cadets with the knowledge and skills to execute rifle drill as a member of a squad

PO S265 – Execute Flag Drill as a Member of a Flag Party
The aim of PO S265 is to provide cadets with knowledge and skills to execute flag drill as a member of a flag party

PO S266 – Execute Naval Field Gun Drill as a Member of a Gun’s Crew
The aim of PO S266 is to provide cadets with the knowledge and skill to execute naval field gun drill as a member of a gun’s crew

PO S267 – Participate in aspects of Marksmanship Specialty Training
The aim of PO S267 is to practice the marksmanship skill introduced in the Corps Program and to generate an interest in additional marksmanship specialty training

Basic Sail

The following are the POs that form the content of the Basic Sail Qualification:

PO S240 – Sail a sailboat IAW Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) White Sail Level 1
The aim of PO S240 is to review and practice the sailing skills learned in Phase Two

PO S241 – Sail a Sailboat IAW Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) White Sail Level 2
The aim of PO S241 is to progress the skills learned in PO S240 through continued practice and introduce new basic sailing skills, while under coach direction

PO S242 – Sail a Sailboat IAW Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) White Sail Level 3
The aim of PO S242 is to progress the cadet’s basic sailing skills, through continued practice, to a level where the skills are performed competently without assistance from a coach

AIR RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP INSTRUCTOR

The following are the POs that form the content of the Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course:

PO S310- Attain Standard First Aid Qualification
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the ability to preserve life, prevent an injury from becoming worse and promote recovery

The aim of this PO is to have the cadets describe the duties of an Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor

PO S341 – Apply the Principles of Air Rifle Marksmanship
The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with the knowledge and skills to effectively apply the principles of air rifle marksmanship

PO S342 – Lead Air Rifle Marksmanship Activities
The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with knowledge and skills to practice leadership during naturally occurring leadership opportunities related to air rifle marksmanship activities

PO S343 – Assist the Range Safety Officer
The aim of this pO is to provide cadets with the knowledge and skills to practice leadership during naturally occurring leadership opportunities related to air rifle marksmanship activities

PO S344 – Coach Cadets During an Air Rifle Marksmanship and a Competitive Summer Biathlon Activity

PO S346 – Instruct a 20 Minute Air Rifle Marksmanship Lesson
The aim of this PO is to reinforce the knowledge and skill related to instructional techniques and to provide the cadet the opportunity to practically apply them by instructing a 20 minute air rifle marksmanship lesson.

OJT – Perform the duties of a Divisional Petty Officer

DRILL AND CEREMONIAL INSTRUCTOR

The following are the POs that form the content of the Drill and Ceremonial Instructor:

PO S309 – Instruct a Drill Lesson
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge and skills to instruct a drill lesson

PO S310 – Attain Standard First Aid
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the ability to stabilize a casualty until the casualty can receive medical attention

PO S 320 – Participate in a Nautical Activity
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet an opportunity to participate in a nautical activity

PO S360 – Perform in a Parade Appointment
The aim of this PO is to familiarize the cadet with the procedures related to parade square activities allowing the cadet to confidently occupy a parade appointment and command on the parade square

PO S361 – Execute Drill as a Member of a Squad
The aim of this PO is to teach the cadet advanced drill movements designed to improve the efficiency of a squad at the halt and on the march

PO S362 – Execute Lee Enfield Rifle Drill as a Member of a Squad
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge and skills to execute rile drill as a member of a squad

PO S 363 – Fire a Naval Field Gun as a Member of the Firing Party
The aim of this PO is provide the cadet with the knowledge and skills to fire a naval gun salute during ceremonial activities.

PO S364 – Command a Guard
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge and skills to execute drill with a cutlass and command a guard using a drill sequence

PO S365 – Command a Flag Party
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge and skills to execute flag drill as a member of a flag party and command a flag party

PO S366 – Participate in a Drill Competition
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with an opportunity to further develop and showcase drill skills acquired through the Corps and CSTC Programs

PO S367 – Participate in Ceremonial Activities
The aim of this PO is to build on the cadet’s knowledge of CF ceremonies through participate in ceremonial activities. Participation in ceremonial activities builds confidence through showcasing the cadet’s drill prowess.

SHIP’S BOAT OPERATOR

The following are the POs that form the content of the Ship’s Boat Operator:

PO S310 – Attain Standard First Aid Qualification
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the ability to stabilize a casualty until the casualty can receive medical attention

PO S321 – Perform Ropework
The aim of this PO is to provide cades with basic ropework skills to enable them to participate in seamanship activities such as small craft operation, ship’s operations and other nautical training

PO S322 – Attain Please Craft Operator Competency Card (PCOC)
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the basic knowledge set required to operate a small craft and attain a pleasure craft operator card (Small Craft Operator Program (SCOP) Module 1).

PO S332 – Attain the Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate (Maritime)
The aim of this PO is to have the cadet attain the ROC (M) (SCOP Module 2) allowing them to operate a VHF radio during Sea Cadet on the water operations

PO S334 – Operate a Powerboat with a Outboard Engine
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the skills required to operate a powerboat with an outboard engine and attain SCOP Module 4 qualification.

PO S336 – Operate a Whaler
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the skills required to operate a whaler and attain the SCOP Module 6 and 6a qualifications

PO S350 – Communicate using Flags and Pennants
The aim of this PO is to develop in the cadet naval communications skills and knowledge that can be applied in may areas of the Sea Cadet Program.

PO S351 – Navigate a Small Craft
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the basic knowledge and skills in marine navigation that can be applied to the operation of a small craft.

INTERMEDIATE SAIL

The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with the basic knowledge set required to operate a small craft and attain a pleasure crafts operator card (Small Craft Operator Program (SCOP) Module 1)

PO S334 – Operate a Powerboat with an Outboard Engine
The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with the skills required to operate a powerboat with an outboard engine and attain the SCOP Module 4 qualifications

PO S340 – Sail a Sailboat IAW Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Bronze Sail Level 4
The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with the ability to understand and apply the basic principles of sail trim and boat turning for optimal performance.

PO S341 – Participate in Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Bronze Sail Level 5
The aim of this PO is to introduce the cadets to skills and knowledge related to boat maintenance, sail theory, trapezing, and the use of a spinnaker in order to start the cadets on their progression toward achieving the CYA Bronze Level 5

PO S342 – Participate in Aquatic Training
The aim of the PO is to introduce the cadets to the aquatic and lifesaving knowledge and skills required for achievement of the Small Craft Rescue Award (SCOP Module 3) and help them to develop their swimming ability

SAIL INSTRUCTOR

PO S432 – Attain the Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate
The aim of this PO is to have the Cadet attain the RCO (M) (SCOP Mod 2) allowing them to operate a VHF radio during Sea Cadet on water operations

PO S433 – Operate a Safety Boat (SCOP Mod 3)
The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with the knowledge and skill required to attain Safety Boat Operator certification

PO S441 – Sail a Sailboat IAW Canadian Yachting Association Bronze Sail Level 5
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadets with ability to understand and apply the basic principles of sail trim and boat turning for optimal performance

PO S442 – Complete the CYA Fundamental Coach Course
The aim of this PO is for the cadet to complete the CYA FCC which is the coaching theory componenet of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) required for all CYA coaches

PO S443 – Attain CYA Learn to Sail (LTS) White Sail Coach Trained Status
The aim of this PO is for the cadet to successfully complete the CYA LTS Coach Clinic which is the coaching technical component of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) required to fall CYA LTS Coaches

BOATSWAIN MATE

PO S421 – Perform Ropework
The aim of this PO is to provide cadets with ropework skills to enable them to participate in seamanship activities such as small craft operation, ship’s operations and other nautical training

PO S423 – Supervise Naval Ceremonial Activities
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge set required to supervise naval ceremonial activities that take place ashore and onboard ship

PO S451 – Act as a Navigator on a Sea Cadet Training Vessel (SCTV)
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge set required to plan and execute a passage on a SCTV

PO S452 – Participate in Ship’s Evolutions
The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge and skills required to carryout various duties during evolutions on an SCTV

The aim of this PO is to provide the cadet with the knowledge set required to carryout basic damage control duties on an SCTV

Battle of the Atlantic Ireland 2013

Battle of the Atlantic Ireland 2013
The Corps will send one cadet for the Prairie Region Battle of the Atlantic trip scheduled for May 7, 2013 – May 17, 2013.

Cadets eligible to participate
- Must have been a cadet with 335 RCSCC Calgary for a min of one year.
- Hold the rank of Master Seaman or above
- Prepare a one page statement answering the question, “Why I should be selected to represent the Corps for the Prairie Region Battle of the Atlantic – Ireland 2013 Trip” and have it emailed to danny.barnfield@cadets.gc.ca before the end of the day Dec 7, 2012.

From here the process will be narrowed down by the Corps Officers on the basis of the following:
- Attendance and participation in Corps activities
- Dress and deportment
- Summer Training Reports

Interviews for those narrowed down will take place Dec 10, 2012.

If you are selected for the trip you will be responsible for the following:
- Maintain an attendance of 100% from the selection date.
- Do a presentation to the following groups about their experiences on the trip
o The Corps
o The Bow Valley Navy League Branch
o 285 Legion
o 286 Legion
o Corps Awards Dinner
- Keep a diary of activities and experiences to be posted on the Corps website, and sent out in the Corps newsletter.
- Be available for interviews
- TAKE TONS OF PICTURES
Parents/Supporters
- Be prepared to cover additional cost such as lunches, tour fees, travel insurance, spending cash…etc (Approx $700)
